A/W 15 Inspiration: The British Canals

Born in the heart of London, BARJIS is inspired by the intricate manmade landscape of the British canals that is often overlooked by tourists and local residents alike. The 2014 Autumn/Winter collection was about venturing into the future world and space. This time, the BARJIS collection is a reminder to self to accept who you are as a person, of going back to the fundamental basics. The mood board for the season reflects the rustic, and peeling paint of the canal boats. In particular, the secretive Little Venice that is tucked away in the hustling and bustling of the London city is the conceptual blueprint for BARJIS design. In the midst of summer, one can spot the canal occupied by husbands and wives out for a mind-freeing stroll, a mid-aged man sipping a shot of Italian espresso on the floating café, couples wandering in the floating gallery, or a group of children caught in action with standup paddle boarding. When the blazing sun is up high, the narrow canal boat moored on the side would cast a deep but graceful silhouette of itself against the sun. It is as if a woman is standing still with ease, poised elegantly against the sun after a day of hard work. She is quite happy and content with life. This is the kind of atmosphere that BARJIS wants to create for the coming season of Autumn/Winter. The varying shades of subtle citrus and plum hues are heavily incorporated to depict the tranquility of the canals and to evoke a sense of sublimeness. The BARJIS signature of Autumn/Winter collection is composed of highly textural wool blend midi and maxi dresses while keeping the sleek and architectural silhouette as well as canal inspired printed cuffs. This season, BARJIS is all about modest femininity.
