This rug is a 1960s medallion hand knotted in Kashan. Kashan is the name of a city that has been the center of silk production since 16th century. The rugs are woven in this city are known under the name of Kashan rugs. These rugs are one of the most well-known Persian rugs because of their famous floral design. The majority of Kashan carpets and rugs have a similar motifs with a large central medallion surrounded by smaller floral motifs, Including palmettos, rosettes, blossom and leaf motifs, forming one of the opaquest patterns. They usually have soft texture and dense pile because of using Persian knot. Another characteristic of Kashan carpets is their colour. These rugs are usually dark red, green and ivory. Designers in order to save this gorgeous antique rug and double its beauty have changed its colour. In this way the original color was removed to undergo a gentle dyeing process and then a single red color was added – while showing the original design to retain the character of the rug. The rug was fully and meticulously dyed by hand which takes about a week of work. This rug is hand knotted by natural wool.
